How I Got Saved
Hey everyone! My name is Jeran Ferguson. I’ve been following Jesus since I was 17 and I love Him more and more every day.
I grew up in a Christian home, for the most part. I was taught right and wrong and that we go to church on Sunday. But as I got older I would see a lot of Christians that I was close to put on a face for Sunday service and then on the drive home they would be angry with each other. Sometimes there would be arguments that led to them screaming and cussing at each other. Or I would see people who said they were Christians but they would be living in complete sin with no desire for God. With that kind of environment, I was taught inadvertently that Christianity is something we do for two hours on Sunday.
As I got older, God became an afterthought, if I thought about Him at all and I slowly walked into sin. I became a typical teenage boy who partied and was addicted to pornography. My life was full of lies and manipulation just so I could look better to others.
My brother was one of my encouragers to these negative traits at the time, until he was born again.
I would see my brother only a couple of weekends out of the month. When we saw each other we would do the usual and do things we should not be doing, but then one day he visited and it was completely different.
He was present, he was helping around the house, and he was singing worship songs. The whole time I couldn’t help thinking “Who are you?”
Now you have to understand, that at that time in his life, my brother was usually on edge and stressed out. He wasn’t the type to be singing and doing dishes in a house he didn’t live in. When I asked him what was going on with him, he told me about Jesus. He told me how Jesus had changed his life and started showing me the scriptures. I thought to myself “My brother has lost it.”
After about a month or so, I saw the change in my brother’s life. He was truly a completely different person. So I began asking some questions about God. I read the Bible and I started looking into history to see if the Bible was accurate. The more I researched, the more I believed. Eventually, this led me to give my life to Christ.
After this, I met a man who was discipling my brother at the time. I asked him a lot of questions that I had about growing in Jesus and we talked until about 2 am.
Before I left his house he started praying for me. He asked Jesus to come and show himself to me. As he prayed this prayer, I felt a tangible presence all around me, and a weight like a heavy blanket covered me. I don’t know how else to explain it.
The presence got so strong that I ended up falling over. Once I came to, I asked him “What was that?” He told me, “That was Jesus.”
From that point on, my life has changed and I’ve been following Jesus and on fire for Him ever since.
How My Work Will Benefit You
My main goal in my articles is to communicate the Word of God in such a way that anyone can understand it. I want to take the knowledge in the Bible and make it actionable because the Word is meant to be acted upon.
Some topics I focus on are:
- Righteous living
- Intimacy with God through prayer
- Knowing God through His Word
- Foundational teachings from the Bible
Like I said before, I don’t want to teach these topics just to communicate knowledge, my focus is application. After all, Jesus said, “Follow Me.” I don’t think He ever said, “Quote me.” One of my favorite statements I’ve ever heard is “We don’t need a fresh word, we need to become the word we’ve heard.” That is what this website is about – hearing the Word of God and then acting on it, so it becomes a part of our everyday life.
I pray these teachings will bless every reader who studies the Word of God to know Jesus, and that this website will become an effective resource to assist all believers to look a little more like Christ.
